It’s been more than a decade since Warrant erupted onto the national scene in 1989, and a lot has happened since. Grunge came and went. Rap-rock came and went. And now a new breed of punk-laced, radio-friendly rock has flooded the market faster than the dirty rotten filthy stinking rich powers that be can even count their cash. Yes, the music business has been through a lot in the past 13 years, but at least we have something to show for it—The true spirit of rock ‘n’ roll, as championed by the band’s that have bucked trends and defied the odds by remaining true to their course. If Warrant aren’t at the top of that list, it’s only because they got tired of waiting

around for recognition and headed back out on the road. True rock ‘n’ roll isn’t dead, it’s just a lot harder to find… But not if Warrant can help it.

Empire - When I was in high school all the girls that were into Bon Jovi and Poison and those types of bands and said I looked like you.
Jerry - Right on, dude! Did you get laid from that?
Nah, I never used it to my advantage.
Aw, come on.
I had to do a class project one time that involved using my picture. I forgot to bring one in, but luckily one of the girls in the class had some metal magazine with her, so we cut your picture out and used it instead.
That’s funny, man!

On to the important things now. You guys are out with Kip Winger, Whitesnake and Slaughter. How’s that going?
It’s going very, very good. The crowds are pretty big. We’ve been doing it for about a month now. It’s going good. You got a lot of good rock bands and Whitesnake hasn’t played too much, so it’s kinda cool to see them out again. We’re having a good time.

As far as the crowd goes, is it a lot of old metal heads from back in the day or new kids coming to check it out?
It’s kind of half and half, believe it or not. It seems like the old school rock is trying to bring new people in and show them what the show is all about. It’s a very mixed crowd. It kind of blows me away that it’s not all 50-year-old people.

Do you guys have anything new in the works?
Yeah, we got some songs we’ve been throwing around. Hopefully in March we’re gonna try and put together our next studio album.
That would be great.
We’ll keep you in touch on that!

You have gone through quite a lot of line up changes through the last 15 years you’ve been together.
Well, it’s only 3 out of 5. Three of us have been together through the whole duration. We’ve had 6 or 7 drummers. I think we just beat Spinal tap this year with number 8. We got ‘em by half a drummer, I believe. People think the line up’s been all moved around, but it’s basically just been that position. We’ve had our guitar player for 4 or 5 years and the other 2 guys haven’t been in the band for at least 10 years, so to us, it’s like they don’t even exist. That was a different era. They’ve gone on.

You guys haven been around since the 80’s into the 90’s. How do you view the music industry now as opposed to when you were just starting out?
It’s way different now. I think now they seem like they’re pumping out one hit bands. New bands these days aren’t as identifiable as we were. Everybody knew who Jamie Lane was and every member’s name in Def Leppard. You see a band now and it’s like, who’s the singer of 311? I have no clue. I have no idea who’s in that band. I think we were kind of fortunate back then. You would get a commitment for a few records from the labels. Now they’re not into developing. They’re just producing the same thing over and over. I think it’s a little harder at this point than when we started out.

I read in your bio that your approach to music at this point is to have a good time. Are you able to stick to that? Are you having a good time?
Yeah, basically you gotta learn to just enjoy it and not take everything so serious. It’s rock and roll. We have fun now. There’s not a lot of pressure on us anymore, so basically we can control our destiny and how much we want to play and where we want to play and who we’re gonna play for. We just run our own ship. It’s a good time for us. We’re fortunate to still be here. We’re saving the moment.

Any plans or thoughts on you guys going out on your own tour?
We’re just doing the Whitesnake tour at this point. We got some stuff in October and stuff in November, but not a full blown tour.

I saw that you do some drawing and painting and stuff?
Yes I do.
Is that just a hobby or something you’re trying to pursue?
I just do it as a hobby. It’s just something I enjoy. I always drew in high school and stuff. I figured I’d just put ‘em up on the website

Are you into oils and pastels?
I do some oil and pencil stuff.

So you just wanted everybody to see them instead of keeping them in your sketch book?
Yeah, I think they’re pretty decent. I’m proud of them. It’s a good thing when you’re off and every couple of years I get a splurge of creativity in that realm.

Anything you want to add?
Just tell people to go to the site, www.warrantweb.net and www.jerrydicksonweb.com. People can go to the site and get all the dates and everything and come out and see one of the shows.
