Empire, a name that became synonymous with the
underground music scene has returned with a fury and force that no other
publication can rival. With a new name and second wind EMPIRE
EXTREME MAGAZINE is poised to bring you some of the finest interviews,
insight and reports from around the globe.
History:
Empire Magazine was started in the spring of 2002 by Deface Marketing
more as a self promotional piece which included several bands from the Pittsburgh,
PA area. The first issue was all black and white and given away at shows.
Each sequential issue grew larger than the last, enveloping regional
and national acts. Within ta matter of months the phone and e-mails
at the Deface office were blowing up with labels and PR firms trying
to get their artist on the pages of Empire. The publication quickly
turned into a full color nationally distributed product, through such
chains as Barnes & Noble, Hastings, Walden Books and nearly 650
independent retailers in the US alone. The reach of Empire has been
felt around the world with a strong subscription base in both the United
Kingdom and Asian countries.
The Down Turn:
In late 2005, much of the music industry was feeling the pinch, Record
labels were cutting staff, tours were getting shorter and advertising
budgets were drying up. Empire lost some key advertising dollars and
were unable to recoup the costs in time to publish the next issue. Time
passed and 1 issue getting skipped turned into two and three.Soon a
year had passed and Emire had nearly died in its tracks. With
the power of the internet and a web site with daily music news, interviews
and world classphotography, Empire was able to keeps fans interested
and keep the ball rolling.
The Rebirth:
They say opportunity only knocks once, but some how it came to our door
twice. Empire Extreme was born from the ashes of its predecessor in
a bigger and bolder form. Knocking it out of the park with the first
new issue in over two years with a feature interview from the chart
topping Type O Negative. This is just the beging of Empire Extreme's climb
to the top… Again
