Prong - Power to the Damager

SPLEEN
One of the pioneers of aggressive industrial thrash is back with a pound you fist in the air release that harkens back to the heydays of Industrial metal. Released under Al Jorgensen’s (Ministry) imprint, 13th Planet Records, I was hesitant when I received this release, after the lackluster effort of Prongs’ previous effort “Scorpio Rising”, but as I dive into this disc I realize that Tommy Victor has returned as the riff master and taken his seat at the head of the table.  The guitar work on this album is what makes it great, I really must say I miss the days of metal having a competent guitar player and a vocalist who does more than just growl in a peaked out microphone. All hail Prong!

A.J.K.
True, Prong was one of the pioneers, but that hardly means that any of it was any good.  The very fact that it was released under Al Jorgensen’s label 13th Planet Records should lead one to believe that the newest album sounds like just that, something from another planet.  Doc, while you were hesitant of Prong’s newest effort due to their previous record, I was hesitant just because it is a Prong album.  Power of the Damager, in my in-humble opinion, should be regarded as nothing more than one big-assed digital guitar clinic for those struggling to learn the intricacies of thrash metal on beat up guitar in their parent’s basement.  However, one thing I will give Prong credit for is the fact that they’ve not sold out over the years.  In 2007 it would be perfectly reasonable logic to expect Tommy and the fellows sell out and start releasing pop-punk albums, yet that haven’t.  They’ve really stuck in there, for better or for worse, and so in that regard I say what the hell, all hail Prong, just do not take haste in investing money into their newest album without first consulting your Priest, Minister and/or holy man of your choice.
