The Dillinger Escape Plan – Ire Works

This album is an incredibly musically dense collection of masterful metal/math rock with moments of sing-along anthems and garbled industrial/punk noise. Bringing to light remembrance of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle,  Ire Works slams you in the face with the opening track “Fix Your Face”, which is exactly what you expect from Dillinger if you have ever seen them live.  I can just picture the insane energy and the crowd surge, not to mention the fanatical front man, Greg Puciato going at it at 100 miles per hour.

This album is DEP most mature effort to date, but that is not to throw them in a category or old rock stars that have lost their fury and angst.  If anything this CD oozes more rage and unrest than most anything I have heard in many, many years.  The movement in these tracks is amazing, they have taken every riff every rhythm and direction and left you guessing.  Much like a well written mystery novel, every track keeps you mind engrossed and on the edge, ready, anticipating the next move, but you never, ever are ahead of this band as they weave you into an incredible web of aural mastery.

This album is sure to propel DEP in front of a much bigger audience heading into 2008. Dillinger is currently finishing off a round of dates with A Life Once Lost, Genghis Tron through December and will be hitting Europe in early 08 with Between the Buried & Me and a second leg with Poison the well.  They will also be hitting the US with Killswitch Engage and Still Remains.
